A citizen journalist, Samer Khalil Al Salta, was shot by the Syrian army on June 28th following the bombing of the city of Duma, located just 10 km north east of the capital Damascus.
Syrian activist Mohamed Al Haj confirmed the death adding that Al Salta was filming an assault of the army in Duma in the Omar Ibn Al Khattab boulevard, when he was gunned down by the army.
37-year old Samer Khalil Al Salta was known as Abou Yasser. He had been covering hundreds of violations against revolutionaries, particularly in Duma. He would then send pictures and video footage to foreign media.
Salam Al Doumani of the Coordination Committee also confirmed Al Salta’s death, and the Syrian National Council’s press centre condemned Al Salta’s death stressing that he was one of the first activists to film the Syrian uprising.
