DCMF exhibitions at Qatar University
As part of Doha Centre for Media Freedom's celebration of World Press Freedom Day, Qatar University's College of Law is hosting the centre's Gaza photography exhibition and an exhibition of the top 25 entrants to the inaugural DCMF World Press Freedom Day Cartoon Contest.
The photography exhibition, which was compiled in conjunction with DCMF's Gaza bureau, documents the work of journalists and violations against members of the media during Israel's war on Gaza in November 2012.
DCMF's Gaza centre provided a safe haven for journalists who wished to continue reporting from inside Palestine during the war. The centre was itself damaged in a bombing attack, and in December, DCMF officials visited Gaza to express solidarity with the centre and journalists who had been affected by the ongoing violence there.
With artists depicting the theme ‘Media Freedom,’ Doha Centre for Media Freedom’s World Press Freedom Cartoon Contest received 237 entries from 47 countries around the world, providing an interesting insight into how cartoonists perceive the global threat to press freedom and access to information, and serving as a clear indication of the power of cartoons to embody these concepts.
The exhibitions will be hosted at the QU College of Law from May 20-23.
