A delegation from Doha Centre for Media Freedom (DCMF) is preparing to travel to New York City tomorrow to participate in the annual International Press Freedom Awards organized by Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) on November 15, 2017, to honor courageous journalists from around the world.

The delegation is being led by the acting director general of the centre, Abdulrahman Nasser Al-Obaidan, and will join representatives of press freedom organisations, media experts and journalists from around the world who will attend the event.

CPJ's Gwen Ifill Press Freedom Award is presented annually to an individual who has shown extraordinary and sustained achievement in the cause of press freedom.

Originally the Burton Benjamin Memorial Award, it was renamed in 2017 to honor the veteran journalist and former CPJ board member who died in late 2016.

This year’s award goes to four journalists from Cameron, Mexico, Thailand and Yemen as announced on CPJ’s website.

DCMF’s delegation will meet with officials from various media organisations, with the aim of developing partnerships and networks to cooperate and address the challenges facing media freedom.
