Doha Center for Media Freedom (DCMF) will take part in the events of Darb Al Saai on the occasion of Qatar National Day (QND), which falls on December 18th of each year.

Junior reporters from DCMF’s Media literacy program will cover the activities of Darb Al Saai, which will kick off on December 9th through the 20th of this year.

The young reporters will be covering the various events through video and audio, and conduct interviews with representatives of participating institutions as well as the public. Their work will be published on the center’s website. Journalists from DCMF’s website will also be covering the QND celebrations, and conduct interviews with officials and guests to highlight the National Day events and media presence.

Hanadi Al-Jassim, Head of DCMF’s committee covering QND, said “the Centre is participating for the third consecutive time in the covering of Darb Al Saai celebrations by sending junior reporters from various independent, governmental and international schools of different nationalities and languages.”

Al-Jassim stressed that this diversity enhances coordination with the Organizing Committee for the success of the National Day activities. A new activity called "Friendship Walk" will be launched for the first time this year at Darb Al-Saai, which includes ambassadors and representatives of diplomatic missions in the country, in order to deepen the solidarity among citizens and residents in Qatar, according to the values of coexistence, diversity of cultures and openness to the world.

Participants and sponsors

The Organizing Committee of the National Day Celebrations announced the national institutions sponsoring the National Day 2017 events. The names of sponsors were inspired by the pre-oil Qatari cultural and economic life. Companies and agencies were classified according to the seafarers' professions working on diving dhows during the summer season. Diving was one of the most important crafts in the pre-oil Qatari economy, particularly, pearl trade.              The activities of the 2017 National Day reflect its essence, and work to achieve the vision that calls for pride, celebrating the national identity and promoting loyalty and unity. Through offering their support, participants and sponsors reiterate the significance of the national day events and its impact on promoting citizenship and increasing national cohesion in the society.

The sponsors are keen to strengthen their role and responsibility towards the community in order to reinforce the national identity of the country, stressing the value of participation in national events.

QND 2017 celebrations comprise a number of events including the welcoming of His Highness the Emir Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani, the National Walk of Doha Corniche, the various events of Darb Al Saai and the Friendship Walk that has been launched this year.

The National Day is the day to celebrate and renew people’s loyalty to the State of Qatar. People living on Qatar’s land celebrate the National Day to promote loyalty, unity and express their pride of the Qatari national identity inspired by the original values of Qatari state since its establishment.
